Additional Information

Hand rejuvenation is a surgical procedure of regaining a fresher and more juvenile appearance of the hands. The changed looks of the hands, and particularly of their dorsal part, can be considered a true sign of aging. Any changes on the hands are hard to conceal, since these parts of the body are most often exposed in everyday activities.

With the passage of time, traces of aging become visible both on the skin and on the subcutaneous tissue of the hands. Brown or dark pigment spots appear on the skin. Subcutaneous fat tissue gradually dissolves, leaving the veins and tendons on the dorsum more visible, while the skin becomes more wrinkled. It is therefore necessary to focus the treatment on both the elimination of the skin changes and regaining of the volume of subcutaneous fat tissue. Preliminary check of the patient’s general health condition and laboratory analyses are necessary.

Performed in local anesthesia and intravenous sedation, the procedure lasts for approximately one hour. Volume of the subcutaneous tissue is regained by the technique of liposculpture. The patient’s own fat is first taken from some parts of the body where there are sufficient quantities of it, or from those required by the patient. The fat is then prepared and, with the technique of structural distribution, inserted into those parts of the dorsum where it is missing. Pigment spots on the skin are removed by a modern laser system. For good results, it is necessary to plan several treatments, which are brief and painless.

Hand rejuvenation procedure does not require longer hospitalization. During the first days, the hands are wrapped with soft compresses and covered with cold dressings in order to decrease swelling. The fingers remain free, thus allowing the patient to carry out some activities. The compresses are removed after seven days. Swelling gradually subsides, yet it may persist for several weeks, or even for several months in some cases. Depending on the postoperative course and the patient’s profession, return to work may be expected after three weeks. In cases of excessive loss of the injected fat, the intervention can be repeated.
